Jess’s Ladies, a herd of eighty cows, graze the fields on Hardwicke Farm in Gloucestershire. The Vaughan family have worked this land for three generations. The herd came into being shortly after the Second World War when Jess’s grampy purchased three milkers. He named them Bluebird, Gypsy and Glow-worm after the tanks he’d commanded in the war. The Ladies today are still related to these three original cows making for a true family business in every way.
Today Jess Vaughan runs the farm with her dad working to a very high standard of animal welfare, with the philosophy that happy healthy cows make better milk. From a very young age Jess had a passion for all things bovine and even though she left Gloucestershire for a while to study at Aberystwyth University she knew it was her destiny to return to be with her Ladies.
Unlike most milk Jess’s Ladies is not homogenised and is bottled without further processing, just as nature intended (apart from pasteurising). So why not give Jess’s Ladies milk a try? It’s available skimmed, semi skimmed, whole or as an extra creamy breakfast milk. The latter makes for a very luxurious bowl of cereal indeed!
