Best Farm Shop

On Monday 21st July at Beaufort Polo Club Paul, Tim, Lynda and myself attended the 2008 Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards. After being short listed for the award with Wotton Farm Shop (friends of ours) and Old Farm Dorn at Moreton-in-Marsh we were somewhat nervous to say the least. To add to the trepidation the judging undertaken by the sponsors Radio Gloucestershire had all been carried out incognito.

After a delicious dinner of local produce including smoked venison, pork tenderloin, a trio of desserts and a beautiful cheeseboard, the compère for the evening (Dave Harvey from BBC Points West) kicked off the proceedings . Luckily we were the second category to be announced and Paul (who can’t remember a thing) accepted the award.

The sponsor claimed it was very tough to pick a winner but Primrose Vale had a slight edge over the others because of their knowledgeable staff and quality of produce. We’d be lost without our colleagues so a big thank you to everyone who works at Primrose Vale. The ceremony then continued and we were delighted to see The Country Monkey “Trail Mix” pick up the most innovative product of the year award.

Jess’s Ladies Organic Milk received best organic producer of the year award and The Curry Corner, Cheltenham, who buy vegetables from us, won restaurant of the year. Congratulations to all.

All that remains to be said is we now need to work extra hard to prove we are worthy of the accolade “Best Farm Shop!
